Obituary for Phil Boland

Philip Patrick Boland

Philip (Phil) Patrick Boland, 20, of Ottawa, died at home suddenly on November 18, 2019 of a pre-existing cardiac condition. He was born on December 4, 1998 in Ottawa. He graduated in 2016 from École secondaire publique De La Salle and was currently enrolled at Carleton University majoring in Bioinformatics with a minor in Japanese.

Phil is survived by his parents Natalie Aucoin and Richard Boland, and his sister Brigitte. He also leaves behind his maternal grandparents, Claudie (Donna) and Betty Ann Aucoin (John), of Cheticamp, NS; and his paternal grandmother, Jean Boland, of Ottawa. He was predeceased by his grandfather, Patrick Boland. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Phil was incredibly kind, bright and loved by everyone who knew him. He had a number of eccentric interests that he was passionate to talk about such as Japanese language and culture, mycology and tea. He thrived in the university environment. He loved animals (especially his dog, Moe), video games and higher education. He had a natural ability to brighten up everyone’s day and he inspired those around him. With his passing, we have lost so much and our world is now dimmer without him in it.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 23rd, 2019 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at Hulse, Playfair and McGarry Central Chapel at 315 McLeod Street, Ottawa. There will be a short service at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to Petsave Sudbury, Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario or to the Carleton University Phil Boland Memorial Fund.
