Obituary for Philip Donald Pawsey

October 20, 1924 - September 14, 2020

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Philip Donald Pawsey (Phil) on September 14, 2020. Phil is mourned by his devoted wife Mary (nee Beatty) and children Jane (Michael Corson), Anna (Stephen Eaton) and Don (Denise). Predeceased by his son, David. Proudly called‘Pop‘ by his grandchildren Derek, Charlie, Katie, Scott, step grandson Shawn Stanton and great grandson Anderson. Predeceased by parents Donald and Carrie Pawsey and siblings Nell, Mary, Ronnie, Ruth and Ted. Phil joined the RCAF at age 18 and proceeded to Britain in WW2. Upon his return he joined TCA/Air Canada as a radio operator. He enjoyed his career in aviation working as a flight instructor and navigator, 2nd and 1st Officer. He acquired his pilot’s license with the aid of his brother, Ronnie. Ronnie owned a plane and had a landing strip on the original homestead in Edgerton, Alberta where Phil was born. He then went on to get his commercial pilot’s license.

Phil was a true Albertan. If the roast beef was delicious, it was Alberta beef. Phil loved his many nieces, great nieces, nephews and great nephews. He was able to visit his western family often. He was very grateful for the wonderful hospitality he received. Phil retired from the airlines in 1983. He and Mary resided in Cushing, Quebec.

He was never idle. He built and flew Lazair ultralights, tended to his amazing gardens, operated his ham radio and enjoyed the company of his many friends. Our family is truly grateful to the staff and caregivers on Rideau 1 South at the Perley Rideau Veteran’s Health Centre who consistently provided exceptional care and friendship. Upon Phil’s request, cremation has taken place and there will not be a funeral service. If so desired, donations in Phil’s memory can be made to the charity of choice.
