Obituary for Richard Joseph Szewczyk

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces with extreme sorrow that Richard Szewczyk passed away peacefully with his loving and devoted wife and kids by his side, at the age of 73, on Friday, November 3, 2023, after a very brief but valiant fight with Cancer.

Predeceased by his parents, Jozef and Jadwiga Szewczyk and his in-laws, Pasquale, and Lily DiMarco. Survived by his wife, Della, sons Christopher (Roxanne), Chad and daughter Tiffany (Mike) Sloan. He was loved and cherished by his grandsons, Maddox and Tyson Sloan who were his pride and joy. Richard leaves behind his brother Bijou (Diane) Szewczyk, sister Christina (Lorenzo) Massarotto, sisterin-law Mary (Late Renato) Zega, brother-in-law, Bobby (late Barbara) DiMarco, sister-in-law Diane (Walter) Cheguis and sister-in-law Patricia (Brian) Tiffany as well as many nieces and nephews who all looked up to Richard.

Richard spent his career as a lineman with Ontario Hydro for 37 years. His colleagues weren’t colleagues, they were family, who all meant so much to him. Richard will be remembered for his love of his family and friends. He would give the shirt off his back without question, to anyone who needed it. His love for fishing, the outdoors, and a loyal fan to the Toronto Maple Leafs, will forever live on through his family as will his endless love and devotion to his grandsons.

As per his wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life with immediate family will be held at a later date.

We would like to take the time to thank the Palliative Care Team, Dr. Cohen, Nurse Allison as well as the Nurses, Doctors and Staff on B2 And C4 of the Queensway Carleton Hospital for your outstanding care and help during this very difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, remembrance donations can be made to CHEO or Queensway Carleton Hospital of Ottawa.

Rest easy “big guy”.  We all love you so much.
