Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 18, 2020, at the Bruyère Hospital, in Ottawa, at the age of 91. Beloved husband of Nicole Bergh (Pelletier) for the past 44 years. Predeceased by his father, Erling Bergh, his mother Kathleen Chapman and his two brothers, Erling and Colin. Dear father ‎of Christopher (Tammy) of Winchester (Virginia); Jodie of Halifax (Nova-Scotia); Martyn (Christina) of San Francisco (California) and Stefan (Antonia) of Kinshasa (Congo) and loving grandfather of Jaime, Sean, Mathew and Isabel-Elise. Survived by his sisters-in-law Jill and Linda Bergh and J‎osette Pelletier and brother-in-law Robert Séguin all from Ottawa and also survived by many nephews and nieces from Ottawa and Gatineau and cousins from Norway and England.

Dr. Rod Bergh graduated in medicine from Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS, in 1957, and spent the next few years practising family medicine in Oromocto, NB.
In 1962, he started a paediatric residency at the University of Michigan Medical Centre, in Ann Arbor, MI, where he obtained his specialty in 1964.‎ He was then in private practice for several years in Fredericton, NB, ‎providing both primary care and consultation services in paediatrics. From 1980 to 1985, he was a consultant paediatrician at Tawan Hospital in the United Arab Emirates. On his return to Canada, he was appointed Coordinator of Paediatric Services at Laurentian Hospital in Sudbury, ON, where he also practised as a consultant paediatrician. ‎He was Chief of Medical Staff at Laurentian Hospital from 1986 to 1998. During his time in Sudbury, he was involved with the development of the Northern Ontario Family Medicine Program. Along with his wife Nicole, he co-chaired the first bilingual United Way Campaign in 1998.
In 1999, Dr Bergh relocated to Ottawa, ON, in a practice devoted to children with learning disabilities, specifically ADHD. In 2003 he wrote a book for parents to explain ADHD; also, in 2003 he received the medal of Silver Jubilee from the Queen for 50 years of medical practice.
Dr. Bergh has been closely involved with The Canadian Paediatric Society of which he was President in 1974. He has been Chairman of the Paediatric Practice Committee, The Education Committee and MOCOMP and CME Committees, Editor of the CPS News Bulletin from 1985 to 1990 and liaison member to The American Academy of Pediatric Education Committee and PREP Advisory Committee and representative to The Royal College MOCOMP Committee. Dr Bergh's experience with ADHD has been developed over several years of direct clinical contact in diagnosing, treating and following children with this disorder. Dr. Rod Bergh retired in 2016 almost 60 years of practicing medicine.

Family and friends are invited to the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, Ottawa, on Monday, February 24, 2020 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at Notre-Dame Cathedral, 385 Sussex Drive, Ottawa (free parking behind the Cathedral), on Tuesday, February 25, 2020, at 1 p.m. with reception to follow at Hulse, Playfair and McGarry, 315 McLeod Street.

The family wishes to thank the entire staff of the Revera New Edinburgh ‎Retirement Residence for the excellent care provided to Rod during the last several months of his life.
