It was with heavy heart we said goodbye to Ronald Earl Abernethy, or as he humorously referred to himself, “Ronald the Earl of Abernethy”, on April 6, 2021.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gloria, his daughter Linda Chapman, and his granddaughters Stephanie Callaghan (husband Mark) and Erin Chapman.
His 37-year Public Service career included the RCAF, DND Navy and External Affairs, retiring in 1993.
His innate sense of humour endeared him to all who knew him, along with his love of history, his Scottish heritage, and his unwavering loyalty to the Toronto Maple Leafs!
The family wishes to thank the Ottawa Heart Institute and the General Hospital for their outstanding care and support.
Donations to the Ottawa Heart Institute in Ron’s name would be greatly appreciated.
