Obituary for Sally Mary Beatrice Cherry

It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Sally on September 23, 2020. Sally was predeceased by her parents Viola (1973) and Bill (1977). Sally lived a very full life and enjoyed many special times with her extended family of grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Over the years, Sally selflessly gave so much to others, including volunteering in several nursing homes, as well as teaching children in a youth bowling league. This was truly her calling in life. Sally was introduced to The Salvation Army Church in the early 90's by her best friend, better known as her "little sister", Sandy. She became a Soldier in the Army in 1994 and a valued member of the League of Mercy in 1995. Sally visited residents at local nursing homes and sent get well and sympathy cards to many people. She was a faithful member of the Women's Fellowship and The Sunshine Club. Sally loved to play the handbells. She was the Welcome Gal at the desk greeting Seniors, and was the token photographer at many gatherings. She loved going to camp and was the life of the party. Sally possessed a wonderful sense of humour, and was the best storyteller. Sally leaves behind her cousins Joan and Dyllan McFall, Jerry and Shirley DeFazio, Patti DeFazio Haney, Nelson and Julie Gonyer. In addition, she will be dearly missed by her little sister Sandy and husband Jim. Aunt Sally will also be remembered with much love by Patty and George, Julie, Mike, Christopher and Micaila, Josh, Carol and Jackson. Sally was truly blessed throughout her life with numerous, special friendships. She will be missed terribly this side of heaven, but know that a host of family and friends have welcomed her to her eternal home. Sincerest thanks to the compassionate care given by the ICU and 3rd Floor staff at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute in the final days of Sally's life. Due to Covid restrictions, there will be no visitation. In memory of Sally, donations may be made to The Salvation Army Barrhaven Church, The Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Fund, or a charity of your choice.
