Sandra Vaughan Thomas
August 4, 1944 - May 30, 2022
Sandra (Sandi) passed away peacefully after a long and brave struggle with multiple health issues, most recently Covid. She was the loving daughter of Dr. Jack and Nance Thomas (predeceased) and sister of Ian, Wendy, and Gai (all predeceased). Also sister to Victoria Ann (Marc Morris). She was a loving aunt to Tracey Alison and Erica Robin (Mike Robinson) and proud great-aunt to Petra and Shadow.
She was born in Newcastle, NSW, Australia and emigrated to Canada in 1953. She lived in Ottawa and attended Broadview Public School and Nepean High School. She graduated in radiography and started her career as an X-ray technologist at the Ottawa Civic Hospital. She subsequently moved to London, England, and worked at the Great Ormond Hospital for Children. While she was there, she traveled extensively in Europe and Africa.
When an injury forced her to change careers, she returned to Ottawa and became a dedicated travel agent. Many people and businesses owe their successful trips to Sandra's efforts. She continued to travel to Scandinavia and Asia, notably to mainland China. She was artistic and creative, combining her love of travel and photography to document her many trips.
At work and in life she was energetic, curious, opinionated, and caring--always there to help others. She had friends in every corner of the world.
And she found a home and family at Temple Israel. Attending services. singing in the choir, and taking part in holiday celebrations meant everything to her. If you would like to remember Sandra, a donation to Temple Israel would be appreciated.
A service will be held at the Jewish Memorial Gardens, 6549 Herberts Corners Rd, Greely, on Thursday, June 2, at 11 am. All are welcome. If you are unable to attend in person, please click here to view the service via livestream.
