Obituary for Seymour Mender

It is with profound sadness that we announce the untimely passing of Seymour Mender on August 11, 2020, at the age of 67. Beloved husband and best friend of Joy Mender for 51 years. Devoted, committed and loving father of Jess (Sean Timsit), David (Sarah Peltz), and Jared (Leah). Proud and cherished Zaidie to Liv and Joey. Dear son of the late Samuel and Helen Mender. Loving brother of Anne (Phil Morganstein) and brother-in-law to Sharon (David Appotive). Seymour will be sadly missed by his nieces and nephews Ryan (Yoni), Brayden, Cole, Jaye, Brody, Tamara (Greg Singer) and Logan.
Seymour will be remembered for his integrity and professionalism, with a sense of humour and always a story to tell. He worked as a lawyer for 40 years, providing tireless service to his clients. He remained deeply connected to the Ottawa Jewish community and served on the Boards of Directors for Hillel Academy and Hillel Lodge. Most importantly, his life was devoted to his family, whom he cherished and loved deeply. His immediate and extended family were blessed to share his life and to learn from his unending selflessness, generosity, and love. They will continue to live life in Seymour’s honour.
Due to COVID restrictions, a private graveside service will be held at the Jewish Memorial Gardens, Bank Street. Private Shiva to be observed. Donations in his memory may be made to Hillel Lodge – Biking for Bubbies (613-728-3900). Arrangements in the care of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry.
