Obituary for Shirley Jean Dasen (Dasen)

Shirley Jean Dasen (known lovingly as Grandma) passed away peacefully and suddenly in Orleans at home of natural causes on May 28th, 2020 surrounded by her loved ones.

Born on December 9th, 1937 in Toronto, ON to George and Rose Dasen. Sister to Marvin (deceased 2014), she was a former resident of Sandy Hill and Ogilvie Towers. Former employee of the Governor General Office, switchboard operator at Bell Canada and the Ottawa Citizen and retired from Congos Inc. Shirley was a super fan of the Ottawa Senators, as well as the Ottawa Redblacks, and Toronto Blue Jays. An avid bowler with church leagues and Master Bowlers Association, she also enjoyed knitting "waschlappens" and blankets, search-a-word puzzles and her grandbabies. A member of Abiding Word Lutheran Church in Orleans and St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ottawa and the Orleans Red Hatters. Shirley was a long time supporter of the Angel Tree and Toy Mountain programs, CHEO, Heart and Stroke, War Amps and Ottawa Mission Foundations.

Shirley is survived by her sons Timothy (Corina) and Robert (Jennifer), sons of Earl Gadde (deceased 2010), and grandchildren Nathan, Emma-Rose and Michael. Also survived by Noreen and Gilbert Miles and family, Richard and Faye Gadde, Victor Gadde, Sue Rawson, Adeline Gadde, Ken Schmekel, Kevin and Linda Gadde, Kathy Gadde, Wendy Powell plus many other nieces, nephews, and dear friends Myleeta Willoughby, Lynn Gillette, Marilyn Smith, brothers and sisters in Christ and her Orleans Little league baseball and Youth Bowling Council families.

A private wake will be held in accordance to current guidelines at Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod St. on Wednesday, June 3rd, 2020, followed by a graveside service by Pastor Goetzinger at Beechwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Angel Tree or to any of the above noted organizations in Shirley's name are appreciated. A celebration of Shirley's life will take place at a later date when gatherings are permitted.
