Condolence: We are shocked and saddened to hear of Steve's passing. He was such a wonderful man and a great chorister. I remember how warmly he welcomed David and Peter to St. Matthew's choir, and all of our family to a community of friends. As newcomers then, he made us comfortable and welcome. To Jenny and family, this is the most difficult news for you. Please know of our thoughts and prayers. May Steve erst In peace and rise with Christ in glory.

Condolence: Jenny & Family, It was so sad to read the news of your loss. Steve was such a kind, caring, interesting and fun person to be around at the University, a man that could help with any information that was ever needed or he could tell you where to find the answer. I loved to talk with him and hear of your hiking adventures and golf stories and he just loved to tell stories of the family and grandchildren. My heart goes out to the entire family. Thinking of all of you, Barb Truscott

Condolence: I have fond memories of Steve not only tolerating our gang of teenagers hanging around your place and eating your food, but engaging with us and educating us on important topics such as Billy Connolly. It was the first time I can remember a grown up treating me like a grown up, and it being fun to hang out with someone's parents. A fun person who also sang in a choir made my love of choral music feel slightly less nerdy. I aspire to be that kind of dad when my kids bring home friends.

Condolence: Steve was a great colleague. I first got to know him when we worked together on the executive of the Faculty Association at the end of the 1990s. It was a scary time at Carleton: the University was going through a very bad financial patch, and faculty layoffs were a real threat. Steve was a strong union man, and he provided a steadying hand in two crucial rounds of contract negotiations. A fine scholar, serious but the polar opposite of solemn, he was a straight-up guy you could always count on, and he was just plain fun to be with. I hope Jenny and his family find some comfort in the knowledge that so many of us who knew Steve at Carleton will hold his memory dear.

Condolence: I first met Steve in 1971 when he moved to Ottawa to become my father's colleague in the Dept. of Religion, and as a Carleton undergraduate I took a course with him that first year. I learned a huge amount. We re-connected when I returned to Carleton in 2005, and i came to value his wisdom and counsel, especially in his time as Associate Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. He was a scholar, a gentleman, and a gifted administrator, who had a wonderful ability to relieve stressful situations with a healthy dose of humour. We are all losers with his passing.

Condolence: I met Steve in 1995, when I came to St. Matthew's as music director. For seven excellent years, we worked together to lift up the music of the church as befitting God's worthy praise, and there is no way would have achieved what we did as a choir without Steve's talented, enthusiastic spirit being a key member of our team. Steve was good and kind to everyone, and he loved his fellow singers and his church community. He had a great many friends that he used to socialize with regularly, and I so enjoyed seeing him out and about, and chatting to him, always remembering the great times we had together. I am so sincerely sorry for his loss, and to Jenny and his family, I offer my condolences, and may the richness of God's consoling love be yours.. I was so lucky to have known Steve. May he rest in peace.
