Obituary for Timothy "Tim" Durwin Leah

Timothy “Tim” Durwin Leah was born in London, Ontario on May 2, 1948. He passed peacefully on January 27, 2022 in palliative care at the May Court Hospice in Ottawa.

Tim was predeceased by his parents, Madeleine and Hugh Leah. He is survived by partner Kim (Marshall), sons Cameron and Carter, loving brother Dan (Jane) Leah, and sister Diane (Liz) Leah. He is also survived by many loved brothers and sisters (in-law), nieces and nephews and surrogate mother Yvonne Marshall.

A devoted father of Cameron and Carter, he would call his sons his best achievements and was so incredibly proud of them and the men they have become.

Raised in London, Ontario, Tim attended South Secondary School and earned degrees in chemistry and environmental engineering from Western University. A passionate drummer, environmentalist, butterfly chronicler and activist, Tim cultivated a diverse circle of friendships for the duration of his life. His career with the Ministry of the Environment spanned 40 years. Achievements included work on the Montreal Protocol and coordinating NGO participation in the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. Tim is also past President of Ottawa JazzWorks and played music until the late fall of 2021 with various friends and combos.

A small private funeral will be held on Feb. 5, 2022, from 1-2:30 PM at Hulse Playfair and McGarry at 315 McLeod Street for immediate family only due to COVID restrictions. A separate musical celebration of life will be held in the spring when loved ones and friends can gather more freely.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to palliative care doctor Regine Krechowicz and the staff at May Court Hospice. Memorial donations can be made to the Nature Conservancy of Canada.
