Obituary for Violet Harriet Craig (Ellis)

Violet Harriet Craig (Ellis)
June 21, 1923 – April 26, 2020

Violet, wife of Albert Craig (deceased), passed away in Ottawa, on Sunday, April 26th, at the age of 96. She leaves her two children David (Joan) and Sheila Logan (Phil), two granddaughters, Sarah (Adam Shapiro) and Jane (Stephane Bujold), and, five great grandchildren Sydney, Leah and Sam (Sarah), Zachary and Luc (Jane).

Nana was born in London, England and as a young woman facing WW2, enlisted in the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force (RAF). She later met and married Albert, a Canadian soldier, and then voyaged to Canada in 1943 as an unaccompanied war bride. Re-united after the war, they raised their family in Hamilton, Ontario. Violet was widowed at age 60.

Mom was a wise, proud and resourceful person who dealt with life’s hardships without complaint. She was strong in character, selfless and loving. Others’ needs always came first. You held things together, Mom.

A grateful thank you goes to the 5th Floor staff and the Physio team of the Garry J. Armstrong Long Term Care facility where Mom lived for the past six years. You cared for her with dignity and kindness.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the very needy Ottawa Food Bank.
