Obituary for Wendy-Anne Jones

She was quite simply the sweetest person you could ever meet. She embraced everyone with her love, her kindness, and her caring.  She died as the autumn rains washed the summer heat away but her warmth will linger in the hearts of everyone she met.

Wendy-Anne Jones was born in Toronto in 1956, and grew up in Montreal, cultivating a talent for writing. At the age of 18, she began working for Air Canada and enjoyed a 16-year career as a flight attendant. She was a caring professional and loved telling stories of her adventures in aviation hospitality. She learned German on her frequent flights to Europe and developed an appreciation for German literature.

In 1986, Wendy enrolled in McGill Law School, earning a BCL in 1989 and Master of Laws in Air and Space Law in 1990. She married Bob Levy during law school and they had two children, Jaya and William, and several unique dogs. After a short time practising family law in Montreal she moved to Ottawa in 2000 to work in air policy and aviation security for Transport Canada. Bob died in 2004.

Wendy met her future husband Sandy Graham, a lawyer with the Department of Justice, in 2006 when both were working on the same legal project. Prosaic work emails over the Christmas season became more personal. By January, the spark jumped. Wendy and Sandy were married “forever and beyond” in a joyous outdoor ceremony on the only sunny afternoon in August 2008. They laughed together for fourteen years.

Wendy loved animals as much as she loved people. She delighted in creatures of all kinds and enjoyed speaking for them in silly voices.  She embraced every duckling, kitten, goat, piglet, and puppy she met.  She often said that her greatest privilege would be to spend her days washing baby elephants.

She unfortunately never got to enjoy that privilege. Wendy-Anne Jones died of ovarian cancer at Manotick, Ontario on September 30, 2020.  She leaves her beloved husband Sandy, her mother Sally, her daughter Jaya, her stepson Mackenzie(Samantha Bradley), brother Griff Jones (Liza Brettingham) and sister Susan(Tim Saxby), nieces Alex (Pete Osborne), Emma (Joe Hawkins) and Annie and grand-nephew Bowen.  She was predeceased by her son, William Levy and her father, David William Jones.  Wendy also leaves her many Air Canada friends, her McGill law friends, her Transport Canada friends, her Manotick restaurant friends and her cycling and travelling friends.

Donations in tribute to Wendy may be made to Hospice Care Ottawa or to the Donkey Sanctuary. We wish to extend our sincere thanks to the gynaecology-oncology team and the nurses of 7 West at the Ottawa General Hospital and the palliative care team at the LINH.
