Obituary for Wilfred (Wilf) Alfred Laham

Wilfred (Wilf) Alfred Laham

1927 – 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father Wilfred Laham on Saturday May 28, 2022 in his 95th year.

He was the loving husband of Ada Laham and devoted father to Susan Presley (Dwight), Louise Wheeler, grandfather to Dena Pitter and Julian Wheeler (Sandra) and great grandfather to Maverick Wheeler. Also stepfather to Rick, Dorothy and Bryan Hersey.

Predeceased by Gabrielle Chene cherished mother of Susan and Louise and his brothers Phillip, Eddie and sister Rosie.

Wilf’s father George Monsour Laham and mother Kareemi ran a clothing store in Eastview after emigrating from Lebanon in 1908. Like his father Wilf was a people person and operated a smoke and gift shop for many years and later was a real estate agent.

Together with Ada they opened Ada’s Diner in 1993 on Bank street where they had a large following of loyal customers who not only came for the great food but also for the entertainment of their hosts. Wilf was at his happiest joking with customers and preparing the daily specials board. He was very artistic, enjoyed oil painting and displayed many examples on the diner walls. He loved to travel had many great stories of time spent and meals enjoyed. He was a “foody” before it was trendy and many dinner conversations were about what the next meal would be as food was his passion.

Due to health issues he reluctantly hung up his apron at the age of 86 although he was sure to tell every customer “don’t ever retire”.

Visitation will be on Monday June 6, 2022 from 11 am until 1 pm at Hulse, Playfair & McGarry Central Chapel with private burial to follow at Beechwood Cemetery.

In memory donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice.
