Obituary for William "Bill" Ames

After a long, courageous battle with prostate cancer, Bill slipped away on the morning of Tuesday, 7 June, 2022 at the Ottawa General Hospital.

Predeceased by his parents Floyd and Ada Ames, brother  Ben, sister Sharon, former wife Beverley and step daughter Michelle.  Left to heartily mourn is his soul mate, Marylou and lovingly remembered by his step daughter Jody (Michael).

Bill was a 'Christmas baby', born on Dec 25, 1927 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and was a proud Westerner.

Bill took pride in his western roots and appearance especially his many hats, his beloved Stetson and boots.  He would not wear any other type of clothing but western, so that became a bit of a problem area during his working years as many employers frowned on 'being different' here in Eastern Canada but Bill was adamant on not changing his ways.  He had quite the collection of Louis Lamour books which he had reread many times. Bill was quite adept at creating garden scenes.  All in all, Bill was a very talented  person with a dry wit.

Bill worked 43 years for the federal government, beginning in Saskatchewan then being transferred to Ottawa.  In all that time, he didn't miss more than a week of work.  He had a very strong work ethic.

Many 'thanks' to all the medical personnel who were involved and aided Bill in his journey especially Dr. Oake who championed for me to help Bill at the onset of his illness and to the 5th floor East oncology nursing staff with special 'kudos' to Mousad, Hali and Laura.  I can't thank the cancer clinic at the General enough for their 'take charge' of Bill.  This was a huge burden lifted.  A special 'thank you' to Dr. Wilkinson who guided Marylou step by step.  Invaluable help.

Cremation has taken place. As per Bill's wishes a private ceremony will be held.
