Peacefully, on April 9th in Ottawa at the age of 97. Born in Montreal to Jacob and Neshka Hier, beloved sister of Dr. David Hier. She was also preceded in death by Hyman, her loving husband of 71 years. Dear mother of Joan and Alan (Dr. Sylvia Turner), cherished Bubbe of Jacob (Caitlyn McCarthy) and Richard, and adoring great-grandmother of Saoirse and Ceili. A proudly independent person and original thinker, she was a great lover of music and the arts. She made a great difference in the lives of her large family, her dear friends and many acquaintances. Her annual New Years’ parties honoured the moment beautifully and became the stuff of memories. Her family would like to thank the caring, dedicated staff at The Westwood and then Hillel Lodge who made her last few months so comfortable, and especially Tom Birkhan, developmental services worker and caregiver extraordinaire.
