Obituary for John Irving Dodge

John Irving Dodge passed away Thursday July 17 at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, Ottawa, following complications from heart surgery. He had just turned 92. He was born in Ashdale Village, Nova Scotia to the late Blanche (nee Parker) and the late Earle Dodge and remained a Nova Scotian always. Beloved husband of the late Helena (nee Morrow). Loving father of Holly (Paul) McNally of Sidney, BC and Dan (Penny) of Ottawa. Grandfather of Jennifer, Sarah, Tory, Emily, Michael, Laura, and Melissa. Proud great-grandfather of Jane, Alexander, Noah, Jasper, and Harriet. Cherished brother of Muriel Mills (George) of Moncton, NB. John served as a radar operator on a corvette in the Canadian Navy during World War 2. He spent his working years in Belleville Ontario with Northern Telecom as an Engineering Technician. He and his wife Helena (deceased) retired to Ottawa in the 80s. John was an active volunteer, both as a boy scout leader and organizer in Belleville and as a technical support aid for the CNIB in Ottawa. He loved golf, new cars, gardening and his many Apple and Blackberry gadgets. Friends and family are invited to visit on Wednesday July 23 at the Central Chapel of Hulse Playfair and McGarry, 315 McLeod Street at 2 pm with a Memorial Service to follow at 2:30. Very special thanks to John's niece Linda Ervin who will officiate at this service. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
