Obituary for Ivy Maureen Cecilia Elizabeth Hall (Britt)

Ivy Maureen Cecilia Elizabeth Hall (Britt)
HALL, Ivy Maureen (nee Britt)
(November 22, 1936 to October 17, 2014)
(Former employee, Bell Canada)
With her family by her side, on October 17, 2014, in Ottawa, Ivy Maureen Cecilia Elizabeth Hall (nee Britt), dearly loved and cherished daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend. Predeceased by her parents, Alexander Britt and Ivy Britt (nee Johnson), and her siblings Joan Abbott (Stanley), Gerald Britt and Wayne Britt (Susan). Leaving to mourn her husband Dleap, daughter Tara, and her lifelong friend Gloria Costanzo (the late Edmund). Fondly remembered and sorely missed by her cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
Maureen was born in Montreal, a city for which she always held a deep affection. Following her graduation with honours from St. Augustine’s, Maureen enjoyed a career with Bell Canada. While at Bell, she met Dleap whom she later married on the opening day of Expo 67 and to whom she was married for 47 years. In 1972, they moved to Ottawa to raise their family.
An avid reader with a keen intellect, Maureen was passionate about politics and had a lifelong interest in current events. She enjoyed nothing more than the parry and thrust of debate on events of the day. Maureen was also a gifted and sensitive teller of stories, able to make the people and events she recounted spring vividly to life. She was a talented mimic and her ability to perceive and illustrate amusing idiosyncrasies would delight friends and family alike. Her home was always filled with music and she loved all kinds: classical, opera, folk, Celtic, fado, and popular song of all eras, but particularly the music of the 1950s. Rufus Wainwright was her most recent favourite. Her recall of songs and lyrics was a marvel. Maureen was well-known for her sharp sense of humour, her warm, caring and considerate nature and her generous heart.
She recalled with great affection the reunions with her friends from the Class of ’53, often sharing her fond memories of those days, replete with personal remembrances and anecdotes, with her family.
Maureen was a truly original and independent spirit, and a passionate defender and protector of all those whom she loved. She will be dearly missed.
Friends are invited to visit at the St Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry 1200 Ogilvie Road (at Aviation Parkway) on Friday October 24th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm.
