Condolence From: Wendy Lawrence
Condolence: I wish to send my condolences to the family of Louise Holmes. I knew her in her professional capacity, related especially to work on women's rights. Most specifically, when I was responsible for Women in Development for CIDA in our Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia, we started a project of capacity building for the Ministry of Women's Affairs there -- and Louise was on the planning mission in early 1988. Being an executive member of the National Action Committee on the Status of Women (1982-3), I was familiar with Louise in her role at Status of Women Canada, and was very pleased that she made herself available for our project planning. Her knowledge of government structures and processes, her dedication to advancing the status of women, her warm personality, and her ability to work cross-culturally were all on display, and contributed to preparing what became a successful project.
I was saddened to learn of her illness and passing. I hope that it may be of some comfort to her family that she is remembered with admiration and fondness by me and I am sure many others.
