Condolence From: David Barron
Condolence: I met Mike through OXA and always enjoyed his friendly and warm approach. He once invited my son and I join him in the box at the Senators game. My son loved it and Mike made him feel comfortable with the business crowd; he took an interest in talking with him. I appreciated it and it very much left a positive impression on a twelve year old. Mike will be missed. Our sympathies to his family.

Condolence From: The Zadra Family
Condolence: We are so very sorry for your loss Cathy, Matt, James, Hannah and family. We have such happy memories from our Michael's days with Matt on the soccer field. It was when your Dad arrived that the team came together. He had a way of bringing a big smile to everyone's face, always looking for fun and always such a positive force. Such a very sad loss, our thoughts are with you...

Condolence From: Marian Eagen
Condolence: The Eagens have such fond memories of hanging out with the O'Brien family when we were children. We were so sad to hear of Mike's passing and our hearts go out to Cathy, Matt, James, and Hannah and the entire O'Brien family. Mom was really sad that she wasn't well enough to attend the service. I hope the memory of that wonderful smile of his will bring a smile to your faces one day.

Condolence From: Colin, Nat, Sarah and Hailey
Condolence: Our deepest sympathies to your entire family. Mike was a genuine person who I had the pleasure of coaching with and my daughter had the pleasure of having as a head coach multiple years. He was a wonderful role model for the girls and was very skilled at speaking to motivate and encourage them. He was very focused on ensuring that the teamwork aspect was emphasized as it was a critical life skill. He not only spoke about it, but was an example of it. We will remember Mike as a positive influence who will be missed. Words cannot express how sorry we are for your loss.

Condolence From: Albert Pisani
Condolence: I met Mike as a young man delivering papers for me on Riverside Dr, while he lived in the Alta Vista area. He and his sidekick, Darcy Bonner, were always so "happy go lucky" in their way in life. Both later came to work with us at The Ottawa Citizen. Mike staying on, to work his way up to the management team in advertising. Mike always acknowledged everyone with that great smile of his. Was always nice to bump into him as well, while he was out walking the dog, here in the Kanata Lakes area. My deepest condolences to all of his family, to this wonderful gentleman, who will be missed by all of his family, colleagues, and friends. R.I.P. Mike. Sincerely, Albert Pisani

Please know that you are not alone during this difficult time. Coach Mike made an indelible stamp on all of us with his contagious love of hockey, the incredible support & caring he offered our daughter & her team-mates both on & off the ice.
He was everything a coach should be & a wonderful human being. We were blessed to share great times with Mike & your family. Our sincere condolences & heartfelt sympathy.

Condolence From: Rob, Nadine, Paul & Anthony Redman
Condolence: Dear Cathy, Matt, James, and Hannah,

We were shocked and so deeply saddened when we very recently learnt of Mike's battle with brain cancer and his terminal diagnosis. We are so very deeply sorry for your loss.

Our family has very fond memories of Mike via the Kanata Minor Hockey Community. It was always a joy to see him and connect with him at the hockey rink - he was always so positive, smiling and fun-loving to all around him. Mike was one of Anthony's very first coaches in Novice (Mike nicknamed Anthony "Crazy Legs" which stuck for a few years), Paul referee'd games with Mike in recent years and Rob and Mike always enjoyed a friendly connection as hockey Dads.

Our hearts and deepest sympathies are with you at this most difficult time. It is always so hard to say good-bye to a loved one that is so cherished and loved by so many and tragically taken by illness too young. As you grieve as a family, may the love, comfort and support from those closest to you and from your caring community help you celebrate Mike, hold on to your many cherished memories and all he has been to you and all.

Our family has made a donation to the Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice in Mike's memory.

With our deepest sympathies,
Rob, Nadine, Paul & Anthony Redman
