Condolence: so sorry to hear about Dolf.
Its been maybe 5 or 6 years since I saw him but he was a great friend. I was at the Institute for Microstructural sciences in the late 80s early 90s in Ottawa and got to know him well. Before that we were both at Xerox in mississauga in the late 70s.. I was a student there and Dolf a postdoc. I really liked Dolf - we had the same twisted sense of humour. I made him laugh out loud many times… when my contract wasn't renewed at NRC in 92 I had a farewell pub night.. it was a small group but Dolf was there .. a great friend and colleague. Gone far far too soon...

We are writing to express our sincerest condolences to you after learning of the passing of Dolf. We know this is an uncertain and emotionally difficult time for you. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and the family.
Though we did not know Dolf well we noticed a kind and gentle spirit in him, especially during your visit with us in Florida a few years back. We were surprised when we learned of his work as a principle scientist at N.R.C.. This was certainly influential and impressive. His memory will, no doubt, live on through you and the family.
Grief is never easy. Please take care of yourself and your family and let us know of any information regarding the memorial that you may want to share.

Condolence: I was saddened today to hear about Dolf. I know it must be a tragic loss for you and your family and my heart goes out to you. I too feel a great loss since I have known Dolf for more than 50 years. We were both undergraduate students in Physics at the University of Waterloo and lived on the same floor in residence for those years. We got to know each other very well and formed a long lasting friendship. We lost touch for a number of years but eventually we both ended up at the National Research Council in the Institute for Microstructural Science. It was great to renew our friendship, talk over old times and to now have Dolf as a close research colleague. I have many fond memories of Dolf over the years, but the ones that always seem to be strongest and happiest are the ones from our undergraduate years at Waterloo. Perhaps in the future we can share our memories and reflect on how he has influenced so many.

Condolence: Please accept my condolences for your loss. I fondly remember Dolf from our days at Royal York Collegiate. One of my best memories was the day Dolf and I made nitroglycerin in his parents’ basement. When it erupted, we were all okay but his Mom’s laundry hanging on a basement line suffered badly.
Clearly Dolf lived a rich and fulfilling life and leaves many enduring memories behind.

Condolence: Dolf and I had a lot of fun together. He was a very pleasant and responsible man, well liked by everyone who knew him. He was a good husband, good father, and a good friend.
One of his favourite spots was the Tiki Bar in Longboat Key. I think that waterfront bar on the beach was one of the main attractions that brought Dolf and Carolyn to Sarasota almost every year.
Dolf was a frequent visitor to the tennis club primarily to meet Carolyn, enjoy a beer, and dine with his friends. Although Carolyn would frequently remind us that she needed to get home to give Dolf his dinner.
Dolf played a significant role in planning a ZIP Line contemplated to run from Nepean point behind the national gallery to a point on the Quebec side. He would determine the required height and speed we would need to cross the Ottawa River and keep clear of boat traffic. He attended several meetings with me and the NCC. I was surprised when at our first meeting he showed up wearing a suit and tie. He brought a lot of credibility to the project.
Dolf and Carolyn were a great team. One of our friends Art Dempsey would say Dolf slowed Carolyn down and Carolyn sped him up.
We will miss Dolf.

Condolence: When we think about Dolf, we think of the Friendly Giant -an imposing "gentle man" who was full of original thoughts and imaginative ideas. He liked to express his opinions, comment on politics and discuss scientific topics ... or simply sit on the OTLBC veranda - have a drink, socialize, and laugh with friends. Dolf was always welcoming and kind, happy to have a house full of people at "the best" bar-b-ques and NYE parties that he and Carolyn regularly hosted.
We miss him and his smile.
