Obituary for Harry Gregory Diaczyk

Harry Gregory Diaczyk

Peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, December 8, 2023 at the age of 77. Loving husband of Kathleen (nee Smith) for 50 years; dedicated father of Greg (Jenn), Katrina (Shawn), Natasha (Brian) and Tanya (Curtis); devoted Grandfather/Dido to Caleb, Joshua, Noah, Maddy, Evan, Abby, Augustine, Emmett, Mikayla and Electra; Son of the late Hryhory and Edwokia Diaczyk; beloved Brother to Peter (Lila), Mary (Tom), Mike (Patty), Johnny (Iwonna); beloved Brother-In-Law to the late Marguerite (Bing), Graham (the late Helen), Melanie (Paul), Kevin (Debbie) and Louise (Ark). Harry will be missed by his many nephews and nieces, extended family and those who were blessed to call him “friend”.

Harry’s love for the Lord was reflected in everything he did. Harry loved people. He was a caring man with a big heart and an inquisitive mind. His love for trains, boats, his old Crown Vic and dancing came only second to the delight he had with his 10 grandchildren. Life with Harry was always an adventure. He was respected by all  who knew him both in his local home community and at Pine Grove Bible Church. You would find him participating and helping in any way he could so that things would run smoothly!

As a lifelong learner, Harry was always looking for ways to grow and pass along his wisdom. He demonstrated this in his career and his love for helping others as a Financial Advisor. He loved staying mentally and physically fit by participating in K2 Martial Arts (earning his second degree black belt in Combat Jujitsu). Harry was known for his teasing, sense of humor, and ability to make friends with everyone he met, especially children. Everywhere he went Harry found ways to engage kids in fun activities. Harry couldn’t  go outside without chatting to everyone and stopping to listen and visit with them. But most notably, he was appreciated  for his deep knowledge and appreciation of scripture, his bible was worn and well used. His very real relationship with Jesus made him the wonderful father, husband and Dido (grandfather) that he was. His heart was open to receive anyone that needed encouragement and support. He had a way of seeing people as they were and meeting them where they were at. His disciplined mind and heart kept him strong to his very last days and his relationship with his Heavenly Father empowered him to calmly navigate all that life threw at him.

Though he will be dearly missed by his family and friends, Harry has prepared us well to carry on his legacy with his well known catchphrases and spiritual insights making us ready for whatever lies ahead on the railroad track we call life.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr Jenn Brodeur, nurse Jackie and the amazing team at Bytown Palliative care for their high level of care and compassion.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry, 1200 Ogilvie Road (at Aviation Parkway) on Thursday, December 14th, 2023 from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. A Celebration of Harry’s Life will be held at Pine Grove Bible Church, on Friday, December 15, 2023 at 11 a.m. In lieu  of flowers, memorial contributions to the Gloucester Emergency Food Cupboard or to the Ottawa Mission would be appreciated by the family. For those who are unable to attend the service, a livestream will be available here through Pine Grove Bible Church
