Obituary for Marilyn Reuber Batchelor

Marilyn Wynette Reuber Batchelor went to be with her Lord on Friday, February 7, 2020 at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, the day after her 91st birthday.

Beloved wife of Roy Batchelor; dear mother to Mark Reuber and Lynn Tschaplinski; stepmother to Judy, Carol and Debra Batchelor; grandmother to Melissa Pelloni, Marnie Brooks, Megan Reuber and Laura Tschaplinski; great-grandmother to Isaiah, Michael and Julia Pelloni; Levi, Caleb and Anna Brooks. Aunt and “adopted” grandmother to many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Predeceased by her grandson Scott Tschaplinski, first husband Herb Reuber, siblings Wilma and Dean Johnston, and parents Blayney and Lola Johnston.

Starting her teaching career in Ames, Iowa, Marilyn worked full- and part-time in Iowa, Oklahoma, New York, Chicago, and Ottawa in both secular and church settings, finishing her career as part of a psychiatric care team treating young children at the Royal Ottawa Hospital. She enjoyed teaching piano, was a lifelong lover of southern gospel music, and enjoyed church and hospital ministry along with her husband Roy, an ordained Christian and Missionary Alliance pastor.

Marilyn never forgot her Iowa farm roots, acquired during the dark days of the Great Depression. She was a family matriarch who influenced three generations with her cheerful determination and careful prayers, always choosing to see the best in others and challenging those around her to “aim high” for the cause of Christ. She will be sorely missed.

Her family thanks the palliative care team at the Civic, the nursing and care staff at the Westwood retirement center, and her extended church family at Cedarview Alliance Church.

Visiting hours are at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Ave. (at Richmond Rd.), 2:00-4:00 p.m., 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 13. Marilyn’s life will be celebrated at Cedarview Alliance Church, 2784 Cedarview Rd., Nepean, 11:00 a.m. - noon, Friday, February 14, followed by a luncheon reception at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christian Counseling Ottawa, www.christiancounsellingottawa.ca/donor-information.
