July 15, 1947-June 5, 2017

After a short but valiant battle with cancer, Don passed away peacefully on June 5, 2017, with his family’s love surrounding him.
He will be much missed by his wife of 35 years Jacqueline, son Philip, and daughter Sabrina.
He is survived by his brother Howard (Donna), sister in law Michele Pinet, and brother in law Pierre Pinet (Linda).
Don was the “heart of the pack” for his two dogs Zoe and Rufus, who miss him so much.

He will be remembered by his niece Christina Stanley (Jen Myers), nephew Michael Stanley (Kait), great niece and nephew Cecelia and Benjamin Shvetz, and most especially by his god-daughter Susan Shvetz (Cory) who has always been an unfailing source of love and support.

Don taught science with enthusiasm for over 40 years of his life. He began his career at Colonel By Secondary School in 1972, teaching there until 1991. He remained at Sir Wilfrid Laurier Secondary School until his retirement in 2002. Even though he was retired, Don continued to supply teach at every opportunity and enjoyed every minute. He always remained intensely curious about life and the way of the world, and loved to explore the wherefores and the whys. Teaching was truly his life’s calling.
Don‘s greatest pleasures came from being at the cottage with Jacquie, Phil, Sabrina, and his dogs. He loved all things green and growing, roller coasters, great food and a cold Coca-Cola Classic.

An informal “come-and –go” remembrance will be held at the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry, 1200 Ogilvie Rd. (at Aviation Parkway) Friday, June 9, 2017 from 4pm until 8pm.

Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy may make a donation in Don’s memory to the Ottawa Humane Society or the Canadian Cancer Society.
