Condolence: Dear Jill and family and Scott:
This is very late because I was overseas and out of contact for a couple of weeks. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy on Bill's passing. I have so many happy memories of him -- notably from Dawson and especially sharing a room with him on Nitza Parry's Israel trip when we delighted in making screwdrivers from backyard grapefruit trees and stealing Squee's shoes that he had left out at a hotel for polishing. Bill was well ahead of his time in his commitment to students and in his belief in the goodness and potential of everyone. The road was not always easy, notably through the CLA crisis at Dawson but he never lost his sense of humour nor his belief in the best of people. It has always been a delight to receive great anecdoes from "jillbill" online and I loved the Snowdon books, rekindling fond memories of the Snowdon Fastball League. I am deeply saddened by his loss but warmed by his memory. He really made a wonderful difference for so many and I know that you are all very proud of him, as am I.

Condolence: To the family and friends of Bill Conrod, I send my deepest sympathies on your saddest loss.
Bill Was the "Dawson Spirit"; he Was the "Dawson Experience"; he lit the path for all of us working in Student Services, and showed us how to do it right.
What goodness, or fairness that remains in the halls of Dawson is only Thanks to Bill, and the love he left behind.

Condolence From: Christine Nestruck
Condolence: Sincere condolences to the Conrod family. My mother, Katherine Nestruck and Bill’s mother were both nurses with the Protestant School Board of Montreal in the late 50’s early 60’s. They developed a close friendship outside of the workplace, such that I remember visiting their home in Snowden and meeting him and Scott and Anne. My mother is now 98 and has been living in Ottawa for 20 years. I showed her the obituary and she was saddened. Peace to all, Christine

I am a neighbour who met Bill while walking his dog many years ago & he passes my place nearly everyday on his way to Watson's . We chatted often & always will remember and miss his positiveness, infectious smile, wit & humour.

Condolence: My sympathy to the family and friends. Bill and I were literacy acquaintances when he was at Algonquin and I was at The Ottawa Citizen. Mostly I saw him at a once-a-year fund-raiser for local literacy efforts. But we always had spirited talks about literacy -- and what needed to be done. I always left these talks inspired.

We were teenage friends in the Snowden neighbourhood and I have fond memories of both Bill and Scott playing at Macdonald Park. He even included me in his book about the old neighborhood.

Condolence From: Terry Callaghan
Condolence: Bill hired me as an Asst. Director of Student Services at Dawson in 1976. All the praise and glowing tributes that I read in his obituary are indeed accurate and well deserved. Bill was my "boss" for many years but more importantly he was my role model, an inspiration and a friend. He was real, open,kind, funny, creative, supportive. Everybody loved Bill! How could you not! After Bill moved on to Conted. at Dawson and then to Ottawa I eventually became Director of Student Services. My mission, as I saw it, was simply to preserve and nourish what Bill had created: the best Student Service operation in Quebec. Bill didn't just "talk the talk" but he "walked the walk" of Student Service principles, values and ideals. He was one helluva guy! Thanks for everything Bill.
